We emphasize the importance of mindful self-care, connection, and compassion.
To ensure this space remains a source of comfort, growth, and healing as we navigate this challenging journey, we ask that all members adhere to the following:
1. Keep the Focus on YOU: While your loved one's struggles are undoubtedly the reason you are here, our primary focus is on supporting YOU. Share your feelings, experiences, and challenges as they relate to YOU and your own healing journey.
2. Respect and Compassion: Treat all members (including yourself) with kindness and respect. As we uplift and support one another, remember everyone's experience is unique and our words can have a profound and lasting impact.
3. Stigmatizing Language: Our goal is to foster understanding and reduce shame so please refrain from using labels that perpetuate negative stereotypes about addiction and mental illness. (Of course we realize that these labels have been entrenched in our culture for many generations, and we might slip from time to time) Our goal is progress not perfection.
4. Confidentiality Matters: Respect the privacy of others. Do not share any personal information about fellow members without their explicit consent. What is shared here, stays here. Trust is essential for open and honest discussions.
5. Trigger Warnings and Self-Care: Addiction and mental health can be sensitive topics. Some discussions might bring up strong emotions for you. If you're struggling, don't hesitate to ask for help or support.
6. Constructive Communication: Engage in open and constructive discussions. Disagreements can be opportunities for growth when handled with respect. Healthy debates are welcome, personal attacks are not.
7. Advice Giving: Your personal stories can provide valuable insights and inspiration to others on a similar path. When offering advice, first ask if the person is open to receiving it. Sometimes, all someone needs is a listening ear.
8. Focus on Healing: Our community is a place for healing and growth. While it's natural to feel anger or frustration, try to steer conversations toward positive solutions, coping strategies, and self-care.
9. Seek Professional Advice: While this community is a valuable source of support and information, it is NOT a substitutes for professional help. If you or your loved one are in crisis, seek guidance from local mental health professionals.
